If you've ever held a Finnaij case up to the light and wondered how the colours stay so rich, so deep, so alive — the answer isn't ink. It's heat, pressure, and a little bit of chemistry. It's sublimation, and it's how every Tough Case and MagSafe Tough Case in our collection comes to life.
What Sublimation Actually Means
Most printed products sit a layer of ink on top of the surface — which is exactly why cheap cases scratch, fade, and peel. Sublimation is different. Under intense heat, the dye transforms directly into a gas and bonds with the polymer coating of the case itself. The design doesn't sit on the case. It becomes part of it.
That's the whole secret. No layer to chip. No edge to peel. Just colour, fused into the material at a molecular level.
Why It Matters More Than You'd Think
This isn't just a manufacturing detail — it's the reason every Finnaij design looks the way it does. Sublimation lets us print full-bleed, edge-to-edge artwork with genuinely vivid colour and sharp detail, the kind that flat ink printing simply can't match. Gradients stay smooth. Fine linework stays crisp. And because the dye is embedded rather than coated, the artwork holds up to everyday life — pockets, bags, the odd drop — without dulling or cracking over time.
It's also why our artists' work translates so well onto a phone case in the first place. A bold floral by Aino Kallio or a vibrant pattern by Tobi Akinyemi deserves a printing method that does justice to the original art, not a faded imitation of it.
Where You'll Find It
Every Tough Case and MagSafe Tough Case in the Finnaij collection is made this way — combining genuine drop protection with artwork that's built to last as long as the case itself.
